CPSA Announces New Steering Committee and 1,000 Membership Milestone

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Congressional Progressive Staff Association completed their first-ever elections for the Steering Committee on March 31st. CPSA is also proud to announce that our membership has surpassed 1,000 members as of today. We are excited to pass the baton to new leadership in our congressional community as they continue fighting for and living their progressive values.

CPSA Steering Committee:
Shukri Jama, Finance Steward 

Shukri Jama is a proud Nebraskan working in Rep. Omar’s Office. As finance Steward, she looks forward to finding creative ways to raise money for the organization, while keeping CPSA free for all. Shukri is excited to work with the steering committee and the general body. 

Zoe Bluffstone, Press Steward

Zoe is from Portland, OR and will serve as CPSA’s new Press Steward. She is excited to help share the accomplishments of the association and to amplify the voices, messages, and experiences of progressive staff far and wide.

Emma Preston, Policy Steward 

Emma Preston is from Council Bluffs, Iowa. A Legislative Assistant in Rep. Ro Khanna’s office, Emma is excited to work with the steering committee and the general body to build out an actionable and progressive policy platform.

Rosario Duran, Outreach Steward 

Rosario Duran, proudly hailing from Miami, Florida, will serve as CPSA’s first ever Outreach Steward. She is excited to continue building community among the membership and strengthen the association’s relationships both on and off the hill.

Justine Liebenson, Digital Steward 

Justine Liebenson is a proud Angeleno serving as Director of Strategic Engagement for Rep. Adam Smith. As a member of the steering committee, she looks forward to amplifying CPSA’s message to build solidarity and collaboration among progressive Capitol Hill staff.

Tarunika Anand, Jobs & Membership Steward 

Tarunika Anand is from Woodbury, Minnesota and is thrilled to serve as the CPSA’s first Jobs and Membership Steward. Tarunika serves as the Energy and Environment Legislative Correspondent for Senator Ossoff. She looks forward to helping create a diverse and equitable Hill with opportunities for all. 

Gabi Morris-Flores, Administrative Steward 

Gabi Morris-Flores is a DMV native (Rockville, Maryland!) who is very excited to serve as CPSA’s Administrative Steward. She is eager to create opportunities for any and all members to step up and be active leaders in CPSA, and looks forward to building a strong community for CPSA members on the Hill and in district offices.

Joe Van Wye, Literary & Education Steward 

Joe Van Wye will serve the CPSA’s Steering Committee as its first Literary and Education Steward. From Bowling Green, KY, Joe is a Legislative Aide/Professional Staff Member for the House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Antitrust, Commercial, and Administrative Law. He looks forward to building solidarity among workers on the Hill and in district offices and improving working conditions for all Congressional staff.

Bre Irish, Workplace Advocacy Steward 

Bre Irish is originally from Grants Pass, Oregon, working as a Legislative Aide for Senator Ron Wyden and will serve as Workplace Advocacy Steward for CPSA. Her goal as the first-ever Workplace Advocacy Steward is to really get in touch with members, find what they need, and work to get them connected. Whether that’s a connection to workplace resources, help managing mental health in a tough environment, or just working to make sure folks have what they need to perform one of the best jobs out there.
